CRF FAQs Joy of Seniors Tributes Contact Us About Us Cavalier Rescue of Florida is an all-volunteer, nonprofit 501(c)(3) rescue, organized to benefit Cavalier King Charles Spaniels in need. For 24 years now, Cavalier Rescue of Florida, Inc. (CRF), has saved hundreds of Cavaliers, placing them in loving homes. Being all-volunteer allows us to utilize 91 cents of every dollar towards the medical care of the dogs. Our volunteers provide shelter, food and transportation for the pups at their own expense. It all makes CRF incredibly effective and nearly unmatched as a rescue organization. Meet Our Team Meet our incredible and passionate team members who help Cavalier Rescue of Florida make a difference in the world of people and dogs. Tracy Baker Chief Pup Officer Executive Director / President of the Board Tracy started as a volunteer, fostering dozens of cavaliers over nine years, and is now Executive Director/President. She works hand-in-hand with our all-volunteer team covering Florida, who jump in at a moment’s notice to rescue Cavies, transport them to medical care, provide foster rehabilitation and most of all, ushering them to safety and love. CRF has thrived under Tracy’s watchful eye. There are more thorough background checks; greater medical care and rehabilitation; more effective communication through social media, website, email campaigns; and, very earnest fundraising efforts. Her greatest reward is seeing the transformation of our Cavaliers from intake to their fur-ever homes. Safe and welcomed with love, the pups grow into happier and healthier dogs. “Nothing is perfect, but we lovingly treat all the pups as if they are own, safety is key,” says Baker. Charlene Gibson Adoptions Placement C oordinator/ Vice President Charlene and her husband, Jim, rescued their first Cavalier-mix, “Fergus Finn” from a high-kill shelter in Tampa, and her second Cavie, Clancy O’Doul was adopted from Cavalier Rescue of Florida. With CRF since 2015, Charlene started as a dedicated volunteer performing home visits, and ultimately Charlene was tasked as the Adoption Placement Coordinator (aka “dream maker”) overseeing all the pups finding their forever homes. In 2018, Charlene was named Vice President of Cavalier Rescue of Florida, also retaining her role as Adoption Placement Coordinator. She and her husband are paw-rents to Hannah Love, Fergus Finn, Sophia Loren and she is pictured here with Stella Annie Gibson, an adorable CRF alumni. Adoption Application Linda Blumenhagen Intake Coordinator / Secretary Linda has been part of Cavalier Rescue of Florida for 15 years, beginning as a foster parent and now as the Intake Coordinator. Linda organizes the logistics for all pups arriving to Rescue from rehomed situations, breeders, hoarding, or otherwise; she is the first step in setting them on their way to happier and healthier futures. Linda has lovingly welcomed more than 30 rescue pups into her home and finds that her foster care is the most rewarding and fulfilling volunteer work. Presently, Linda has a senior Tri-color, Black and Tan /English Toy Spaniel and newly adopted Black and Tan, Reba as part of her family. She also serves as Secretary on the Board of Directors for CRF. In 2007, she and her husband fell in love with the Cavalier breed and adopted their first Blenheim, beautiful Bella. They discovered Cavalier Rescue of Florida in 2017 and jumped right in to help cavaliers in need and now volunteer as fosters, caring for and rehabilitating newly rescued cavaliers. As Eileen's commitment grew over time, she was elevated to Foster Coordinator overseeing all foster families and programming, a very rewarding and heartfelt endeavor. In 2022, Eileen accepted the duties of handling CRF’s finances as Treasurer and became a Board Member. She is pictured here with her first and forever Cavalier lovey , Bella. Email Eileen Shelley Renaud Placement Team / Board Member Shelley fell in love with Cavaliers after the adoption of her first pup, Melody in 2009. Melody was an 11-year old puppy mill momma who had multiple litters of puppies before she was relinquished to Lucky Star Cavalier Rescue; that fateful surrender saved this pup’s life. In 2013, Shelly learned about CRF and volunteered to foster newly rescued pups. Hailey was her first foster, a terrified puppy mill survivor, who thrived under Shelley’s care--Hailey was a foster failure! Now age ten, Hailey never leaves Shelley's side. Shelley volunteers in a variety of roles for CRF: a dedicated foster and is part of the passionate Placement Team securing fur-ever homes for these sweet pups. She lives in Central Florida with her partner, Ann, and her rescue pups Hailey, Jagger, Kasey and Benji. • Elliott | Cavalier Rescue FL

< back to home Elliott Donate Adopted! Welcome little Elliott ! This happy little Blenheim has the most loving eyes and sweet disposition. He is settling in well. Elliott’ s favorite things are toys, chasing balls and following his humans around. You might find him sitting at the front door waiting for a walk. He loves a good walk and wonderfully, his leash manners are improving. As with many Cavaliers, Elliott is eager to please and loves attention. He does need additional training but is a quick study. Elliott can become a bit “overjoyed” when meeting other dogs and is learning that barking or jumping does not get him the attention he desires. It’s just that he wants to share all the love he has to give. Napping is another thing Elliott excels at; he does sleep in a crate but has little interest in getting up on furniture. Elliott is housebroken and would be a great addition to any active family, but cats are unknown at this time. 🐶 Age: 4.5 years 👍🏻 Weight: 17 lbs. 🐾 Circumstances: Owner surrender ❤️ Health: Elliott has been fully vetted, and his heart, ears and eyes are healthy. Yay! Lab work is pending. He was recently neutered and had his dental cleaning. CRF microchips all rescues. 🏡 Forever Home Requirements: ✔️ Fence preferred ✔️ An active family ✔️Another like size dog preferred ✔️ Frequent walks 💸 Adoption Donation: $900 If you believe you, your home and lifestyle offer Elliott the things he needs, please complete an adoption application. If you would like to know more or have completed an adoption application in the past six months, please email us with “Elliott” in the subject line to: adoptions@cavrescuefl.org . 🚩 If you do not check ALL of the above requirements, your application will not pass the screening process for consideration. • Emerald | Cavalier Rescue FL

< back to home Emerald Adopt Me! Orange City Introducing Emerald , the third of the Treasured Ten pups, and sister to Coral. Emeralds are beautiful green gemstones that symbolize loyalty, new beginnings, peace and serenity. Their green color signifies abundance, prosperity and growth. A perfect name for this special girl. Being a breeder surrender, it’s likely Emerald did not have much human interaction. However, that’s not stopping this girl from settling into her new life! She has made so much progress and is adjusting well. This sweet as honey girl is friendly and loves to cuddle with her humans. Emerald even enjoys grooming. How can that be?!?!?! She walks well on a leash until she sees a lizard and then she simply must chase after it. Easy going Emerald will sleep anywhere. She does well alone at home, but open doors are an invitation to run outside and chase lizards. A curious little girl indeed. Her Blenheim coat is gorgeous, and she has the cutest freckles. Emerald is working on learning commands and what playtime means. House training is going well. 🐶 Age: 6 years 👍🏻 Weight: 16 lbs. 🐾 Circumstances: Breeder surrender, one of the Treasured Ten. Sister to Coral, however they are not bonded and will be adopted separately. ❤️ Health: Emerald was seen by a vet upon arrival. The good news is that she has no heart issues. • Elle | Cavalier Rescue FL

< back to home Elle Adopt Me St, Petersburg Meet sweet Elle , an easy-going and happy tri-color girl. Elle is a proud member of the Belly Rub club! She loves her humans and snuggling in bed with her blanket. Though a good sleeper, she may serenade you with her melodic song (a.k.a. snoring ❤️ ). Elle is settling into her new surroundings well. She likes her foster sister and follows her around. However, since Elle is deaf, she is a bit insecure and needs to know where her humans are. She does not like being left alone and will bark if you go to another part of the house without her. Adorable Elle is a foodie extraordinaire. She will attempt to eat anything on the floor. You may never need to sweep again! However, a watchful eye is needed to make sure she doesn’t get something she shouldn’t, especially around small children. Though mostly laid-back, Elle has spurts of energy and enjoys her walks. She even finds the sight of her leash soothing, even if she isn’t going anywhere. Elle is housebroken. What a wonderful addition she will make! 🐶 Age: Just about 5 years old. D.O.B. Jan 2, 2020. 👍🏻 Weight: 25 lbs. • Katie | Cavalier Rescue FL

< back to home Katie Donate Adopted! Here comes Katie a dancing! Yes, this is how she approaches life whenever excited, and she’s pretty much always excited. We suspect she may be a reincarnated ballerina. We gonna go somewhere? Watch these twirls! Getting ready for a walk? Here’s my salsa interpretation! Is that a treat in your hand? Hmm, is that a twerk? Wait, what, it’s mealtime? Look at me, I’ll do my Triple Axel! Dear Katie , this tiny Blenheim dancer, is simply great company. She’s an intent listener when you talk to her, eyes so focused on you. And, of course, it goes without saying that she’s a cuddler par excellence. Her favorite hobby is taking notes on how everything smells. Katie gets along well with her foster sibling. Yet, she is cautious at first with new dogs, especially big dogs as she had a bad experience previously. Katie likes the big bed but doesn’t mind her crate either. A good walker, if a tad slow, but when it’s time to rest, she has the cutest pose of crossing her paws. She’s just a happy girl and several times a day will amuse us with a tail-chasing session. So, Katie the entertainer is pretty certain to keep a smile on your face! Is there any better way to go through life? 🐶 Age: Katie is 11 years old. 👍🏻 Weight: 16.4 lbs. 🐾 Circumstances: Owner surrender. 🐕 Temperament: She’s the "poster pup" for Life is Good! ❤️ Health: Katie is an 11-year-old spayed, Blenheim who was examined by Dr. Jessica McAlpin at Oceanview Veterinary Hospital. She does have a cataract in right eye and will be evaluated by a veterinary ophthalmologist. Katie has severe Grade 4 dental disease with infection and will have a dental done after she is evaluated by cardiology for a Grade 3 heart murmur. She has been treated for a UTI and hookworms. Katie is a tad hard of hearing as well. CRF microchips all rescues. 🏡 Forever Home Requirements: ✔️ Preferably an at-home adult most of the day in a quiet home. ✔️ Commitment to daily walks/exercise to help maintain her health. ✔️ Dedication to continuing cardiology care as may be determined. 💸 Adoption Donation: $300 If you believe you, your home and lifestyle offer Katie everything she needs, please complete an adoption application. • Morgan | Cavalier Rescue FL

< back to home Morgan Donate Adopted! Meet Morgan , he's an adorable little snuggle bug who only weighs seven pounds. We think he’s the Travel Size Cavalier! All Morgan wants is a spot on your lap (or a puppy sling over your shoulder) and lots of love. We don't know much about his history, but he rarely barks, loves easily, and will likely be your little shadow who just wants to be with his human. We don't know how Morgan feels about sharing the spotlight since he is the only child in his foster family. He’s one of three Cavalier mixes in pretty rough shape that appeared as an immediate in-need situation. Yeah, we caved. Some say these curly locked cuties are Cavapoos, but we’ve got some that think differently. No matter, we’ll take care of him. He's only been with his foster family for a short time, but they are very happy with the progress he's made adjusting to his new life of love. He's doing well with his crate training and learning to walk on a harness and leash. When his foster parents are out of the room or have to leave him for short periods of time, he's happy in his little playpen. When they are away for longer periods of time he stays in his crate. Morgan is absolutely adorable and would love nothing more than to fall asleep in your arms while you give him a belly rub. And if you like them smaller in your lap, he’s your boy! 🐶 Age: Morgan is 20 months old. 👍🏻 Weight: 7.5 lbs. 🐾 Circumstances: Breeder surrender. 🐕 Temperament: A born-again velcro pup! ❤️ Health: Sweet pup Morgan is a 20-month-old, intact male weighing a tiny 7.5 pounds and could gain 1-2 pounds. Treatment for fleas, ear infections and deworming was completed; heartworm test is negative; and blood chemistry is normal. Arriving with no medical records he will need distemper and parvo titers and rabies vaccination. Morgan will have a dental cleaning and neuter surgery after his anemia has resolved. CRF microchips all rescues. 🏡 Forever Home Requirements: ✔️ Preferably an at-home adult most of the day in a quiet home. ✔️ Fenced yard for roaming and playtime required. ✔️ Commitment to daily walks/exercise to help maintain her health. ✔️ A commitment to continued training. 💸 Adoption Donation: $900 If you believe you, your home and lifestyle offer Morgan everything he needs, please complete an adoption application. • Scottie | Cavalier Rescue FL

< back to home Scottie Donate Adopted! Welcome Scottie , a charming tri-colored beauty. According to his foster, this handsome boy’s favorite thing is belly rubs. Yes, he’s a member of the famous Belly Rub Club. He simply adores having his belly rubbed by his humans. And with that cute face he’s hard to resist. Scottie is settling in well. He is learning to walk on a leash/harness and is a fast learner. However, he is not accustomed to long walks so he will plant his feet and refuse to move–a bit of stubbornness in this adorable boy. Scottie is used to sleeping in a crate and if you listen carefully, you might just hear him snore a little! Zzzzzzz. Due to past living circumstances Scottie does have food aggression. Children in the household must be over the age of 10. 🐶 Age: 6 years 👍🏻 Weight: 25 lbs. 🐾 Circumstances: Owner surrender due to health issues. ❤️ Health: Scottie has been fully vetted and is in general good health. • Jade | Cavalier Rescue FL

< back to home Jade Donate Adopted! 💚 Introducing Jade , the seventh of the Treasured Ten pups. As a gemstone, jade symbolizes purity, harmony and protection. Its spiritual properties include confidence, acceptance, health, and the ability to resolve emotional and spiritual issues. Little Jade will be summoning all of these as she transitions into her new life. After a long life of breeding, Jade is ready for her next chapter. She is described as nervous, timid, shy and a bit fearful. Totally understandable. But just look into her soulful eyes and you will see a wonderful ‘gem’ of a pup just waiting to shine. Jade just needs time, love and gentle guidance. As you might imagine, settling into a new environment can be scary. Jade was never in a home, walked on a leash or had toys to play with. Poor girl! But this Blenheim beauty is on the road to a new and better future, one full of healing and love. Jade has bonded with her foster sibling and is learning so much. How to walk on a leash, eat from a bowl, enjoy outside time. However, due to her nervousness, trusting humans, especially men, is challenging for Jade . Loud noises, including thunder and squeaky toys, frighten her. She is slowly coming out of her shell. Are you the special person Jade is looking for? 🐶 Age: 6 years old 👍🏻 Weight: 18 lbs. 🐾 Circumstances: Breeder surrender, one of the Treasured Ten. ❤️ Health: Jade has been vetted. • Onyx | Cavalier Rescue FL

< back to home Onyx Donate! Sarasota Introducing our Treasured Ten! Another breeder rescue! In early 2024, CRF rescued 12 Cavaliers from dire circumstances, ten more breeder pups from the same family just arrived into Rescue. Living in a very rural, almost serene Floridian farm, the environment seemed idyllic, but these breeding pups spent their days in a darkened, air-conditioned boarding room with a fan or outside. It’s hard to visualize; it’s not the typical lap of luxury that our precious Cavaliers are used to. 💔 Nine females and one male came into our care; all beautiful Blenheims and Tri-colors, ages 1.5 years to 7-years-old from a breeder operation. Whatever the reason the relinquisher decided to surrender her pups and give them a chance at a better life, we are thankful to have them. Her final act of love was saying goodbye, opening their crates and handing them over to us. They are our Treasured Ten! ❤✨🌟 With their cute faces and fearful eyes peeking out from the crates, these pups were frightened. Several got sick in transport or pottied in their crates; arriving at their foster homes, many didn’t come out of their crates for hours. Despite being timid and afraid, they have been soaking up the love from their foster families – they seem starved for love and attention. Fortunately, these Treasured Ten beauties we saved and rushed into our love and care. Our first sweet pup is Onyx ! Our only boy, almost 19-months-old, is named after Onyx , a gemstone symbolizing strength, courage, believed to relieve mental stress, and promote emotional well-being. For this sweet boy overcoming a less-than-ideal start to his life, this is the perfect name for him as he heals and embraces happiness. This beauty is not available for adoption yet, our priority is his health and wellness. More medical details will be forthcoming. Please follow our Facebook and Instagram pages for pup-dates. Thank you for your support! Typical costs for vetting a newly rescued pup are approximately $3000 per pup, we are looking at approximately $30,000 in expenses to secure a bright and happy future for these ten pups. Yes, we are looking for rescue angels to support this mission of healing and recovery. If you are willing to assist, please click here: https://bit.ly/4e6zdvs previous next

  • Alex & Abby | Cavalier Rescue FL

< back to home Alex & Abby Donate Adopted! Bonded 'cause we understood ♫ There's one perfect fit ♪ And, sugar, this one is it ♫ We both are so excited 'cause we're bonded . . . Beautiful Alex and Abby are in love and not reunited, because they’ve always been together . . . and need to always be so. This Blenheim duo are pretty much the definition of a bonded pair. You might think there’s velcro in that fur, they frequently cuddle so tightly. Come nighttime, they can be found happily piled on top of each other in their crate, though we don’t doubt they might be open to a group cuddle in the big bed. The younger Alex is simply a super happy pup that is generous with the cuddles, freely offering his belly. He’s described as a go-lucky free spirit and still oozes that puppy feeling. Alex loves a good run-around as a way to let that energy out, so a fenced yard is essential. Big sister Abby just adores her brother and is a gentle girl, the calmer of the two. She is an avid hunter though, loving a good chase after lizards, squirrels, and even cats, so your safety is guaranteed. Food is important to her and give a good shake to a treat bag and you’ll have Abby ’s attention. Alex and Abby , together always, are now just looking for a new two-legged companion or two to join their love fest. Want to be bonded? Established in 2000, (CRF) is an all-volunteer, nonprofit 501(c)3 rescue, established to benefit Cavalier King Charles Spaniels in need. We are dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation, reuniting, and re-homing of Cavalier King Charles Spaniels as well as education focused on Cavalier health, responsible dog ownership, reputable breeders and puppy mill awareness. CRF also serves as a resource to other rescue groups and private rescuers who are working to save Cavalier King Charles Spaniels. One of our main goals is to combine efforts with other Cavalier rescue groups to provide a stronghold of volunteers and foster homes throughout the state to ensure that all small towns and shelters will have someone to call when a Cavalier is in need. Through the dedication of our cavalier-loving fosters, Cavalier Rescue of Florida, Inc. will provide love, shelter, food, human companionship, medical care and spay/neuter services for Cavaliers until a permanent placement in a pre-screened, suitable, permanent home is found that best suit the needs of the dog. We do not accept euthanasia as a means of population control for animals and believe each Cavalier's life is meaningful and each deserves a loving home. Cavalier Rescue of Florida, Inc. wishes to eliminate the euthanasia of any healthy, adoptable Cavalier. We take responsibility for each Cavalier rescued and placed through Florida Cavalier Rescue, Inc. for the rest of the dog's natural life. At the heart of rescue, is a passion for saving and helping another in need. Although, CRF is a breed specific group, if it is determined, after a dog has been accepted into rescue, that she is not a purebred Cavalier, CRF will provide for the dog in the same manner as any purebred Cavalier. With the help of our dedicated volunteers and our wonderful adoptive families, we have placed over 500 Cavaliers in their forever homes. Donate What We Do Our foster families have Cavaliers of their own, and love and understand the breed.; our foster parents learn and evaluate their behavior and habits. Are they good with kids? Do they like long walks or ball play? House trained? Crate trained? Cuddle bug, licker or reserved? Several partner veterinarians medically evaluate and treat the dogs including: vaccines, conditions treated, teeth cleaned, microchipping, and spaying or neutering. We also include nails and grooming. Then it becomes our task to find the right forever home for each dog. We do adoptions based on best match. We take into consideration dogs that may be of interest to you, but we assess the dogs needs and requirements at minimum, and match to an applicants' home, lifestyle, etc. Careful screening is done which includes personal references, vet references, an interview, and a home visit. All cavaliers are placed in homes that best suit the needs of the dog. Since we have fewer dogs than we do applicants, we encourage you to complete our online Adoption Application . You will need to provide personal and vet references as well in the form. Apply Today Is a Cavalier Right For You? The most important thing to do before you decide to adopt, is to familiarize yourself with the breed. Do research! here are options Google, dog shows, books or someone with a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. The breed, especially rescues, can range in weight and size. Not all Cavaliers are small. And we cannot guarantee their genetic history. Cavaliers are extremely people oriented and want nothing more than to give and receive affection and attention. They need to be with their family. Because of this, some people find them to be overly affectionate, so if you are not a person who likes a dog to kiss you on the lips, lick your ear, lie in your lap, next to you on the furniture, or share your bed, a Cavalier may not be the dog for you. Their greatest joy is to be with you. Cavaliers are very social, so we do not like to place them in homes where they would be left alone a lot. Ideally a family member would be home during most of the day, and/or other dogs in the house. As a rule, they get along well with other dogs and also cats. You must keep in mind, however, that they are a small spaniel and most still have fairly strong hunting instincts; so lizards, squirrels, gerbil, hamster or bird, may not be safe. After doing your research, if you still want a Cavalier rescue and you live or will travel to the state of Florida, we would love to help you find the right Cavalier for you. Apply Today 3-3-3 Rule Rescuing a new dog can be rewarding and bring joy to your entire family. Before you adopt shelter dogs , you should understand the 3-3-3 rule. The 3-3-3 rule represents the phases of a rescue dog or common milestones your new dog or puppy will go through 3 days, 3 weeks, 3 months after being adopted. Three days to decompress, three weeks to feel settled, three months to feel at home. Apply Today Where Do Our Dogs Come From? The first step is to complete the CRF “adoption application” form. It’s important to read and complete all sections accurately, and don’t be afraid to let your personality shine through! This is the initial way the Placement Team gets to know you. CRF has a rigorous and specialized program for our custom Cavalier King Charles Spaniels adoptions. We consider ourselves “matchmakers” – the Placement Team matches the dog and their specific needs to a home and family that already offers what that particular dog needs. Though you might be enamored with a certain dog, if you do not have the home or lifestyle that the Cavalier needs, CRF will not match you to that Cavalier. Our mission is to place a Cavalier in a home that meets THEIR needs – we are all about finding that furever, happy place for each dog! It is a very detailed, time-consuming and individualized process. We need to assure a perfect fit for both our pups and our adopter families. This is a big difference between CRF and a shelter, and even some other Rescues. If you are truly interested in adopting, it’s best if you apply to CRF before you even see a Cavalier of interest on our website. If you happen to see a Cavalier that you ARE interested in – who wouldn’t fall in love with their sweet faces – be sure to completely read their bio and understand the implications for you and your lifestyle. If you offer what that specific Cavalier needs for a happy life, then mention their name and your interest in the application. Do you adopt dog to families outside of Florida? We do! The adopting family is required to go to the home where the Cavalier is fostered to pick up their new furbaby. The options are that you drive or fly, but if you fly the Cavalier MUST travel with you in the plane’s cabin. We will NEVER ship a Cavalier or allow one of our Cavaliers to travel in cargo. You don't have to live or be a US citizen to adopt from CRF, but all fees, paperwork and travel requirements are the sole responsibility of the adopter. All requirements must be met prior to taking the dog into your possession. When will I hear back from someone on my application? CRF is an all-volunteer organization. Most of our team have part-time/full-time jobs, families, other obligations, etc. CRF receives hundreds of applications each month and it’s impossible to personally contact each applicant. You will here back from a Placement Team volunteer once we determine a potential match. This is why it’s important to fully complete the application, and to send one in before you see a dog that steals your heart. How long will it be before I can adopt? That’s difficult to answer. Since we customize each adoption--matching a Cavalier according to THEIR needs, we will search through our extensive database of applicants looking for the perfect home for that Cavalier. Some applicants have waited over a year; some have their dreams made true within months. We keep our applications on file for one year. In full transparency, if you have not heard back from us within 30 -60 days, your adoption application most likely did not meet the very exacting standards for our custom adoption protocol for the pups we currently have in rescue at this time. Feel free to apply to our volunteer program and support the many Cavaliers we have in Rescue! https://www.cavrescuefl.org/volunteer-application Where do the dogs come from? CRF is based throughout Florida, we get Cavaliers from across the state through various areas: · Relinquished from prior owners who can no longer care for the dog, for various reasons · Shelters across the state · Newspaper ads and Craig’s List · Breeder releases · Abandonment, as strays · Puppy mill closures and raids · Cavaliers that go to auction are there as castoffs from a puppy mill. They might be no longer “producing” puppies, or are sick, or maybe that puppy mill is closing down. Whatever the reason, CRF has a special donation fund, My Ticket Home, where we pull the funds that enable us to go in and scoop up as many Cavaliers as we can, no matter their condition. Our goal is to stop the inhumane treatment of these dogs and responsibly vet, rehabilitate and place a Cavalier in the best home for each one. My Ticket Home is funded by caring donors, such as you. If you would like to specifically donate to that fund, please click here. What happens to a dog once he/she enters the Rescue? Rescued Cavaliers are immediately placed in a loving foster home. The foster parent is responsible for socializing, ongoing training (when necessary), taking the dog to vet/specialist appointments, and providing a loving interim home. During the time the Cavalier is with their Foster, the foster parent assesses the needs of the Cavalier. It’s important to note that the foster parent has an important role in the adoption process, since they know their rescued Cavalier the best. Where can I go to see a dog I’m interested in adopting? CRF does not have a central shelter facility. Our rescued Cavaliers are in foster homes across the state of Florida, and even beyond – we have Fosters in close by surrounding states. Once a potential adopter is selected for a Cavalier, the adopter is usually encouraged to visit the Cavalier at a planned meet-and-greet at the foster’s home. Do you have a waiting list? Sometimes. Young, Blenheim female pups are the most popular Cavaliers, so we have a waiting list which is influenced by the needs of the individual Cavalier. Otherwise, we do not have formal waiting lists because the Placement Team matches each Cavalier, based on his/her needs, to an adoptive family as a custom adoption. If I volunteer for your Rescue, will I be able to adopt more quickly? We always have a need for more volunteers, but this is NEVER a guarantee. For example, we might have a long-time volunteer that lives in a lovely condo by the beach, without another dog, who might fall in love with the face of a Cavalier that LOVES running around a yard and playing with doggie siblings. The Placement Team would not recommend this match because the Cavalier loves running a yard with doggie friends, neither of which is part of this volunteer’s lifestyle. Why is there an adoption fee? CRF is a 501(c)3 non-profit, and we rely solely on donations and non-paid volunteers for the care of every Cavalier we rescue. Donation fees are far below the costs associated with medical, specialty and dental care, feeding and other related expenses. Your donation goes towards the rescue of TWO Cavaliers – the one you’re adopting, and the next one coming into Rescue. Why are the adoption fees different? The adoption fees are primarily based on age; the higher fees are associated with younger Cavaliers, and they become lower the older the Cavalier. Do you require that I have a fenced in yard? A fenced yard is not always required; it is solely based on the needs of the Cavalier. • Kier & Kade | Cavalier Rescue FL

< back to home Kier & Kade Donate Adopted! Meet the BEST-est boys ever: Kier and Kade. Sadly, their owner had to surrender them. However, it is clear they were loved and well taken care of. Kier and Kade have settled in well and are ready to meet their new fur-ever family. Kier and Kade’s foster couldn’t say enough about this playful duo. Words like well-behaved, good sleepers, adorable, sweet, quiet, and polite were just a few that were used to describe these charming Cavies. Keir and Kade enjoy short walks. Both know basic commands like ‘sit’ and ‘stay’ but would benefit from continued training. They are patient with children and like other dogs. What sets these bonded beauties apart? Kier , a black and tan, is a lap-loving snuggler. He prefers to sleep at the foot of the bed. He is a master of the ‘face-plant’, meaning his body on your face. What a great way to wake up. However, Kier is not fond of being brushed and having his ears cleaned. So, some patience and training will be needed. Though Kade , a Blenheim, is the older brother, he has slightly more energy! If you listen closely, he will utter a soft bark to let you know he wants to play. Kade’s superpower is to offer a complimentary ear exam – one filled with loving doggie kisses. Kier and Kade are a near-perfect bonded pair! Will you be the lucky family to adopt these boys? 🐶 Age: Kier is 5, and Kade is 7 years old 👍🏻 Weight: Kier is 20 lbs. • Ryan | Cavalier Rescue FL

< back to home Ryan Adopt Me! Jacksonville area Meet spitfire Ryan , a puppy that seemingly gets stuck in go mode. Maybe he’s just that joyful soul that appreciates life too much, but maybe it’s because his life simply got SO much better recently! Ryan was born in a puppy mill, landed in a shelter, then he had a short time out in a failed adoption, only to come back to the shelter. Then he met CRF! We can’t fathom who wouldn’t fight to keep this charmer, but then some people don’t know they’re not dog people until they try, we guess. Now, Ryan is a puppy, and puppies need some training. The good folks at the shelter taught him Sit, Come, and, wait for it, Dance! Yes, he’ll get up on hind legs and dance for a treat. I mean, the boy just oozes happiness and sheer delight that it is literally impossible not to smile! Ryan , with a lusciously wavy Black and Tan coat, is smart and learning the rest of how to be that good boy. He’s prone to an occasional case of the zoomies, and sometimes his tail needs chasing.
